Argyle Scarf

I'm working on a few scarves to give as a send off gift to some good friends of mine.  They are moving to the East Coast in January, and I am so very sad to see them move.  But I wanted to give each family member a nice warm scarf, since they don't have many, being from So Cal and all.  This is also an opportunity to try out a new technique on a scarf I've wanted to make for years, which uses a technique that is new to me; double knitting!

The first go around was a total mess.  I could not figure out the best way to hold the yarn, and my tension was terribly slack.  The second attempt, after watching a few online tutorials, was much better; but still not quite right.  One side looks okay.

The edge stiches are a bit loose until I remembered to twist the yarns.  The other side, however...

You may notice something missing.  I seem to have left out the bottom point of the diamond on the left, as well as a blue stich in the far left line.  So I will be ripping this out today and starting over. 

Other than the few mistakes, I think this came out pretty well.  I've figured out the technique, mostly.  I can't wait to share the finished pictures!

Take Three

I was not happy with the way this scarf was coming out.  I was about nine pattern repeats in, and ripped the whole thing out.  So now I'm on my third rendition of this scarf, with smaller needles, and it is coming out much better.  The pics below show some of the VERY loose stiches and terrible edges on the second version.

Final Take

Finished!  This seemed to take sooo long, but in reality, it was only about a month.  Which is not so bad, considering I learned a new technique, and ripped the whole thing apart three times before finally getting it right!  Now I just hope my friend loves it, and wears it all the time.  I hate to think that all this hard work will just end up in the back of a closet somewhere.
